Can Furrion Chill Cube AC System Work With Furnace On Existing Thermostat?

Question:
I’m looking at the chill cube 18k ducted with heat pump to replace our failing Coleman Mach in our 2021Tiffin Wayfarer RW. In current thermostat set up if I turn on the electric heat pump and it gets too cold to handle it will kick in the propane heater. Is there a way to use the Chill cube with the heat pump in this way with my existing propane heater? Second question is, will I still need to use my existing thermostat to operate my propane heat but use the chill cube remote control to operate the AC/heat pump? Is there a combination thermostat option?

Hey Cindy, I can help you out with all this! I'll start by saying the Furrion Variable Speed Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w/ Heat Pump - Ducted - 18K Btu # FR27TQ would be the one to look at since it includes the AC unit, distribution box for inside, and the thermostat. The one you were looking at is just the AC unit itself without all the other things you need.
While the Furrion thermostat does work with a furnace, it will not do what your current thermostat does. It will not be able to automatically shut off the AC heat pump and switch to the furnace. You'll need to manually do that after wiring the furnace to this new Furrion thermostat.
I asked Furrion if you could try to retain the current thermostat but they couldn't confirm compatibility with any other thermostat, unfortunately; so you'd be on your own if you try to do that!
Sorry I didn't have the best news for you, but let me know if you need anything else! I think you'll really like this AC unit because it's one of the better new units on the market, and are extremely efficient.
