Question:
I have a 9160 progressive dynamics converter in my motorhome. I added a 600ah lithium battery bank, 600 watt solar panel with 50 amp controller compatible with lithium. Do I need to upgrade converter to 9300 for the lithium batts? Also please recommend a transfer switch to connect my 3000 watt inverter. Thanks

Hey Bob, thanks for reaching out. The standard PD9160A was designed around lead-acid charging profiles, so that won't provide a proper charge to your lithium batteries. The best move will be to upgrade to the Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger # PD79RR. This works with lithium batteries so it'll give your battery bank the charge it needs. The good news is your existing wiring should already support the 60-amp converter since the lithium version is basically a direct replacement.
For the transfer switch, the Progressive Dynamics # PD52 is what I recommend. It's a solid choice for a 3000-watt inverter setup because it’s built heavy, switches cleanly between shore and inverter power, and protects against backfeeding your system. It’s one of the more proven RV transfer switches out there, with heavy-duty contacts and a built-in time delay so your inverter and electronics don’t get hammered during transfer. With that setup, you'll be in solid shape for running most normal RV loads.
What do you most want that 3,000W inverter to power on trips?

I switched my slide in camper to LiFePO4 and moved from 200AhLead acid to 800Ah lifepo4. I matched it with the progressive dynamics 9300. I found the charging complete and fast it has been two years now trouble free. It handles all my needs while on shore power works great in cold weather

I upgraded to a PD 9300 Series due to charging issues with my 4 AGM Batteries. Still ended up having issues. Took MH to shop I used and we went the Lithium route. My shop guy had them run all new wire (bigger gauge). Seems the factory wiring from Thor was having trouble pushing enough power the 30+ feet from Charger to batteries. Now the PD 9300 works great and no charging issues what soever. The nice thing about going with the PD 9300 was it is already setup for Lithium as well as AGM. My Inverter already has an internal transfer switch so no changes there. I would highly recommend the PD 9300 Series Converter Charger.

Yes. I purchased the Dynamics 9300 RV Converter Charger for my 2002 Fleetwood Class A Motor Home. This purchase was due to the original Failed. The Converter has performed well with no problems. Vincent

YES!! I had upgraded to lithium to batteries a year ago , but they never got above 4 lights. On my last trip the converter went out ALL together. Had to buy a battery charger to finish our trip! Made it home and replaced converter the 9300 with battery matching switch, set it and you GOOD! Batteries now at 5 lights on shore power!! Problem solved!
