Looking For Replacement For Older Center-Stud Mount Trailer Jack

Updated 05/08/2026 | Published 05/05/2026

Question:

I have a Shelby tongue jack that has a plate that is welded to the trailer. It appears to have a stud with a nut at the center of the mounting plate that holds the jack to the welded plate. It doesnt appear to have a snap ring or snap ring groove. What can I use to replace this jack?

Hey Ken, thanks for reaching out. What you’ve got there is that older Shelby-style center-stud mount, and unfortunately there isn’t a direct replacement jack still being made that will drop onto that welded plate. Fulton used to offer something similar, but those have been discontinued for quite a while, so there’s not really a current “bolt-on” option for that setup.

At this point, the cleanest way forward is to switch to a standard jack that uses its own mounting bracket. Something like the etrailer # MJ-1200B would work well, it clamps or bolts onto the trailer frame and doesn’t rely on that center stud at all. It’ll give you a solid, stable setup without having to try and adapt to that older mount. Most people in your situation end up going this route rather than trying to reuse the original plate. It will fit really any frame between 2" and 4" tall. It has a 1,200 lb capacity and a caster wheel.

What kind of trailer do you haul? Know how much it weighs?

I have a Hustler trailer that has a frame made from a 4” steel channel. The Shelby Jack that is on there now is rated at 1000 lbs. I pull a 22’ Pontoon boat but I have no idea as to how much it weighs. Ken

@KenB Ok nice! I just wanted to be sure the 1,200 lb capacity would cut it. Sounds like it will be more than enough.

@JesseM Can you tell me what the dimensions (spacing) of the mounting holes are? For some reason no one publishes that information on their website. I'm trying to verify that the mounting bracket will work with my C4 channel. Ken

@KenB Hey Ken yes I'll go ahead and post those on here but if you go to the part page for the # MJ-1200B we have a diagram that shows the dimensions and bolt hole spacing. I don't have a way to put a picture in the comments on here but they are on the part page. The bracket is 6-7/8" wide x 5-3/4" tall overall. The holes are 5-1/5" apart horizontally. Vertically the top hole and the first hole under it are 2-7/16" apart. Its 3-7/16" from the top hole to the second hole and 4-7/16" from the top hole to the bottom home. It'll fit really any frame between 2" and 4" tall.

If I convert to the bolt on Jack as suggested can I mount it in the same position as where the existing Jack is? ( After removing the old one, of course!) Ken B

@KenB You'd have to remove the old mount bracket too which appears to be welded on. If you don't want to cut that off, I'd say just put the new jack to the side of the old mount or put it on the other side of the tongue.
