Hi Carl, you’re absolutely right that Weigh Safe does offer a 4 inch drop version of that True Tow setup, even though you’re not seeing it listed on our site right now. If you’re set on the 4 inch shank, especially for ground clearance or a cleaner fit, I can definitely look into getting that exact configuration added to the website for you so you’re not compromising on what you need.

That said, the 6 inch version part # WS79VR you were looking at is adjustable in one inch increments, so it can usually be set right around a 4 inch drop and still tow level. A lot of people go that route because it gives a little extra flexibility if anything changes with the setup down the road, but I completely understand wanting the shorter shank if clearance is your main concern.

The key to getting that smooth, confident towing feel is having the trailer level, and this setup gives you the ability to fine tune that without being locked into one fixed height.

If you want to be 100 percent sure, the best way to confirm is by measuring from the ground to the top of your hitch receiver and from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler when it is level, and that difference tells you exactly where you will land within that adjustment range. Once it is set, you will have that built in scale helping you keep your tongue weight in check as well, which really adds to the peace of mind on the road.

What truck and trailer are you pairing together, and where do you usually like to camp?
