Can You Replace A Dometic 111 On A Pedestal With A Thetford Style II?

Updated 05/05/2026 | Published 04/30/2026

Question:

I’d like to replace a Dometic Model 111 which sits on a pedestal with the Thetford Aqua-Magic Style II RV Toilet - Low Profile - Round Bowl - Slow Close Lid - White Ceramic Dometic doesn’t seem to make a low profile toilet for a pedestal. I’m sure these have different bolt patterns. Do think think this will work or do I need to stay with dometic. Problem is the toilet will be so high !

Hey Steve, welcome back. You’re on the right track here, and you’re not stuck with Dometic just because that’s what was in there. The Thetford Style II uses the same standard 2-bolt floor flange as your Dometic 111, so from a mounting standpoint it’ll bolt right up. The water connection is standard as well, so nothing crazy there, maybe just a slight tweak depending on how your line is routed.

Where things get tricky is that pedestal. That’s what’s making your current setup feel so tall, not just the toilet itself. The Style II is a true low-profile unit, so it will drop the height some even if you leave the pedestal in place, but you’re still sitting on top of that base. If you really want to get it down to a normal height, the move is to remove or modify the pedestal and mount the new toilet directly to the floor flange. So yes, the Thetford will work just fine, it just comes down to how much height you’re trying to get rid of.

Thank you! I think the pedestal will be fine. Dometic replacement toilets seem to be made to sit on the floor. They don’t make a pedestal toilet like the Thetford. So putting a fill model on a pedestal makes for a VERY high toilet! Original Dometic 111 had a seat height of 12”. As I look at the Thetford it too has a seat height of 12”. So should be a good fit with the existing pedestal. Please correct me if I’m wrong! Thank you!

@SteveC The Thetford # TH35SE is 14" tall with the lid closed. The seat is at about 13" so slightly taller than your Dometic but not by too much.

Replaced similar with Thetford, no height difference. 1968 Shasta 17' on platform. Not used yet and I can't find my cat...(just a joke).

Hey Steve, I have changed out many a toilet in an RV and it should not be a problem making the conversion. The tricky part is where the drain hole/flange is located on the floor in relation to the wall. The hole on the bottom of the toilets is not always in the same spot, so there is possibility that they will not match up if the flange is too close to the wall. Good luck with your new throne!! My replacement Thetford sits and works as well as the Dometic. All measurements for bolt pattern and plumbing match up just fine.
