Question:
My Atwood g8a-8e 6 gallon gas water heater tank has a leak. I need to replace it. What is a good option. I do a lot of off grid camping and don’t have solar just the batteries and a generator. What’s my options to replace. If tankless is an option will it run off the gas and just battery power or do I need 120 to run it.

Hey Eugene, thanks for reaching out. We do have a good option for replacing your old Atwood tanked unit. I definitely recommend going tankless just because you will have more access to hot water, and they run off 12v power which is great for off grid camping. I recommend the following:
- Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - 60,000 Btu - 18" x 18" Door # FR68SR
This runs off gas and 12v power. It can produce up to 12 gallons of hot water per minute so a much longer lasting supply compared to tanked units. It will install using the existing gas and plumbing lines. One thing to keep in mind is the tankless units are typically smaller than the tanked units, so you may have to modify your cutout and built it out a bit with some plywood or 2x4s to properly house the unit. Once you do that, this will be a great upgrade for you. its ideal for off grid camping without access to short power.
What kind of camper do you have? Where do you boondock the most?

The Furrion tankless water heater is a great option! It works with gas only and 12v for power. I highly recommend it!
