Question:

I own a 18ft 9990 rated 06 econo trailer with 6000 lb axles manufactured in claysburg, pa. I need to replace the slipper springs and equalizers. Equalizers look like product Ap202 and the only 6000 lb springs I saw for a 6000 lb axle were 27 inch. When I measured the unloaded length of the springs currently on it I got 26 5/8 which look like a 7000 lb axle spring. So, I need some verification on which ones I need and or will work. Center hub to center hub is 33 inches. Thank you. Additionally I was gonna replace the break away as well, do you have a recommendation? Im gonna be getting hubs and electric brakes too but I already know what Im getting there. Thank you

Hey Scott, welcome back! The 26-5/8" Long 5-Leaf Slipper Spring item # e74SR are definitely going to be the best option. Thanks for taking a measurement with the unloaded weight! Don't get that too often. They're sold individually and rated at 3,500 lbs apiece. They'll feel like new springs but they won't be overrated for 6,000 lbs axles.

As far as a replacement equalizer goes, the Tandem-Axle Trailer Equalizer Kit for 2" Slipper Springs item # AP202 will work so long as they are the same dimensions as your current equalizers. I do recommend confirming that yours are 10" long from the center to the center of the mounting bolt holes. If you come up with a different distance let me know, we've got other options.

For a breakaway kit, I recommend the Bright Way item # 3802336. This kit comes with a breakaway switch, a 0.5 amp charger, a 5-amp hour battery, a battery box, wiring and wire loom. You'll be able to mount it directly to your Econo trailer's frame.

I go into a trailer shop. Find out what you need. They come back here for the price and quality. Measurement of old spring is useless. Measure fixed points. Nice thing about the slipper spring is that it give you few inches to work with.
