Hi Gary, great question and I can definitely help you get set up the right way so everything works cleanly and reliably.
For your 2012 Jeep Liberty, the best wiring option for what you’re describing is the Roadmaster diode kit part # RM-15267. This kit ties into your Jeep’s existing tail light wiring and gives you a dedicated plug at the front of the vehicle so your motorhome can control the brake lights, turn signals, and running lights just like it should while towing. It’s a very clean setup and once it’s installed, you don’t have to think about it again, which is what most people are after.
If your goal is specifically to have a plug at the rear of the Jeep instead, there isn’t a traditional hardwired kit that adds a permanent rear tow plug for flat towing. In that case, a really good alternative is the Demco wireless tow light system part # DM36MV. This plugs into a 7-way at the back and uses a wireless transmitter, so you get working signal lights without tapping into the Jeep’s wiring at all. It’s a great option if you want to keep things simple and avoid any risk of wiring issues.
Since you mentioned flat towing, I do want to quickly confirm that your Liberty is a 4WD model with a transfer case that has a Neutral position, because that’s required for safe flat towing.
If you want, I can also help you build out the full setup with base plates, tow bar, and braking so everything works together seamlessly.
Where are you hoping to take the Liberty once you’ve got everything set up?
