Roof Rack for 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan With Thule Hullavator Pro

Updated 04/02/2026 | Published 03/29/2026

Question:

2025 vw Tiguan. what cross bars should I get that will fit my vehicle and the Thule hullavator. The Thule crossbars do not have enough overhang. Due to Thules sizing and the the width of my roof rails varying from front to back, Id need a 50inch bar for the back and a 53inch bar for the front and I think Thule only sells them in pairs. This has been frustrating. Thanks for your assistance.

Hey Sabrina! For a roof rack that will give you enough overhang to use the Thule Hullavator Pro # TH898 I recommend the Yakima TimberLine Roof Rack # Y42GD.

This comes with 60" long JetStream crossbars so you will be able to clear the side of your vehicle when using the Hullavator. The JetStream bars are also extremely quiet compared to others so you won't have as much road noise if you're leaving them permanently installed on the Tiguan.

What kayak are you carrying?

Thanks! I thought that Yakima set up might work. I’m actually carrying a 12 ft paddleboard and I thought the extra lift assist might help out with the Hullavator although the more I’ve been looking the Showdown might be enough to meet my needs. Either way, I’ll get those Yakima crossbars. I appreciate the info. Thule really should give minimum dimensions that their crossbars will fit.

@Sabrina the Hullavator # TH898 is definitely the better of the two but it also costs a decent amount more than the ShowDown # Y04081. It would be nice if Thule gave those dimensions, especially when you need that extra length for the Hullavator. The Yakima JetStream is nice because the bottom channel runs the length of the bar so you can mount it no matter what. Sometimes you can't add the longer Thule crossbars since the feet won't line up with the bottom channel and then you have a different problem.
