Hey John, thanks for reaching out. The Dometic Digital Thermostat # DMC84RR uses two AAA batteries to power the display and logic. You can’t really bypass the batteries completely because the thermostat needs them to function as a digital unit. Even if you hardwired constant 12V into it, it’s not designed to run that way, there’s no terminal for it. It’s built to use batteries for the electronics and the RV wiring for the furnace control separately.

If your goal is “no batteries ever,” then you’re looking at either going back to a true mechanical 2-wire thermostat (no display, no batteries) or switching to a thermostat that’s designed to run off system power. But with that specific Dometic model, the batteries are part of the deal, they’re not optional.
