Will TorkLift Lock and Load SideKick Have Clearance on 2017 Tacoma TRD Off-Road With Front Hitch

Updated 03/23/2026 | Published 03/19/2026

Question:

I plan on using this front hitch with the Torklift A7901 generator carrier. I have two questions. Will the receiver end jut out far enough for the platform of the Torklift to clear the bumper? 2nd question...will the skid plate have to be modified on my 2107 TRD Off-Road?

Hey Will! The skid plate on your 2017 Tacoma TRD Off-Road will not have to be modified to install the # C31075. The only one that requires modification to the skid plate is the TRD Pro.

Regarding the clearance, I can't say for sure. The distance from the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the # TLA7901 is 6". Since we haven't installed this hitch ourselves yet we don't know the distance from the center of the Curt hitch pin hole to the front edge of the bumper. Based on pictures it is too close to call.

If the generator isn't taking up the full 21-1/4" long x 16-1/8" wide x 3-15/16" deep inside tray dimensions I'm sure it will clear without any issues. The carrier itself sits low enough it will be fine, so it really depends on the size of the generator that will be sticking up on the tray. If you can shift it a few inches forward on the tray I'm confident it will fit.

What generator are you carrying?

The bumper on my 2022 Toyota Tacoma trd sport is about 4 1/2 inches beyond the center of the pin.
