Portable Heavy Duty 12v Winch That Can Be Used To Transport Race Car In Trailer

Updated 03/18/2026 | Published 03/14/2026

Question:

I want to have this be truly portable and use it for things like loading my track car into my enclosed trailer. I have purchased many many items from eTrailer and the fact that you carry this brand means a lot. There are a lot of complaints in various reviews about transporting the Superwinch via the handle- worrying about the weak front lid latches. Has Superwinch upgraded the lid clasps? There is a similar competing product with a similar look and specs that may have better lid latches and I cant decide between the 2 brands. I hope there is a great answer and I can make another purchase from eTrailer. Thanks to whomever answers this.

Hello Tor, thanks so much for your continued support over the years - we really do appreciate it.

I completely understand your concern here, especially if you’re planning to move this around a lot for something like loading a track car into your enclosed trailer. Portability is a big part of the appeal with the Superwinch Winch2Go, so it’s fair to look closely at those carry points.

With the Superwinch Winch2Go Portable Winch # SW1140222, Superwinch hasn’t officially noted a redesign or upgrade to the lid latches on this specific model. From what we’ve seen and from customer feedback on our end, there haven’t been consistent reports of the handle or latches failing during normal transport. That said, the concern you’re seeing in outside reviews is valid - this is still a plastic case, so being mindful when carrying it is a good idea.

If having more robust latch hardware would give you better peace of mind, there is a version available with metal lid latches # SW1140232. It still uses a similar carry handle, but the upgraded latches can help address part of that concern and tend to feel a bit more secure overall.

As for the competing brand you mentioned, we don’t currently carry another portable winch in this exact style, so I don’t want to speculate without knowing which one you’re comparing it to. If you can share the name or model, I’d be happy to look into it and give you a side-by-side comparison so you can feel confident in your decision.

Tor, how often do you plan on moving the winch in and out of the trailer? Also, what kind of cars are you hauling? I'm always tinkering with some classic cars or something along those lines.

We mounted the superwinch in a location in our enclosed trailer that it is out of the way and doesn't have to be moved. We do exactly what you want to do with this unit. We have had no issues with it.
