Tie Down TD49FR Bunk Slides Weight Limit and Fiberglass Hull Compatibility

Question:
I’m interested in the Tiedown TD49FR bunk slides. Are they okay with fiberglass hills? I ask because a bunk slides product I saw cautioned about fiberglass hulls and boats over 1500. Is there a weight limit to these slides? Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill, that’s a really good question and I’m glad you’re double checking before installing anything on your bunks. The Tie Down Marine Slides part # TD49FR are designed to work with fiberglass hulls and are commonly used on fiberglass boats without causing damage.
There isn’t a specific weight rating published for the slides themselves because the bunks and trailer structure carry the boat’s weight. I confirmed with Tie Down that the weight capacity is based off of the bunk itself. The slides act as a low friction surface over the bunk boards rather than a structural support. As long as your bunks are in good condition and properly supporting the hull, the slides simply reduce drag when loading and unloading the boat. They are made from a durable poly material that does not trap grit like carpet can, which actually helps reduce the chances of scuffing the hull.
The TD49FR kit includes multiple slide sections and stainless mounting screws.

The trailer I have is for a MacGregor 19. A product I was going to use cautioned about its use with a painted fiberglass hull weighing over 1500 lbs. As for fishing, I don’t fish. I’m just a person who likes being on the water.
