Bike Rack and Cargo Carrier Option With 1up Bike Rack

Hi David, that is a great question and I am really glad you asked before ordering. I completely understand wanting to keep using your trusted 1Up rack.

With the Yakima EXO Swing Away system part # Y34ZR, the upper deck is designed specifically to work with Yakima EXO modular accessories. The only bike rack that is made to mount directly to that upper EXO deck is the Yakima DoubleUp part # Y24VR for the EXO system. Unfortunately, a 1Up rack cannot be attached to the EXO upper rack because the mounting interface is proprietary to Yakima’s EXO components. It is not a standard crossbar or 2 inch receiver connection up top, so there is not a clean or secure way to adapt the 1Up there.

One option would be to use a modular hitch mounted carrier system like the Benton Basic Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # B42FR, which gives you crossbar style mounting at the rear. If your 1Up is a roof mounted tray style rack, it could attach there, and you could pair it with a cargo box like the Benton ShellRaiser, part # B44FR. I know a few customers and even some of our own team members who have tried the Benton Basic Hitch system, and they’ve really liked how flexible it is. Being able to arrange your gear the way you want instead of being locked into one fixed setup makes a big difference, I have added a few photos on their vehicles. If your 1Up is a hitch mounted platform style rack, we would want to look at a different strategy entirely.

If you let me know exactly which 1Up model you have, I can make sure we are looking at the right direction. What bikes are you planning to carry on your 1Up?
