Can Yakima EXO System with 2 Bike Rack and Enclosed Cargo Carrier be used on Sprinter Van

Updated 10/28/2025 | Published 06/19/2021

Question:

Does this assembly work on a Sprinter Van? Will I be able to open the van doors while the bikes are?

Yes the Yakima EXO System with 2 Bike Rack and Enclosed Cargo Carrier # Y34ZR would fit your 2019 Mercedes Sprinter and would allow rear door access when it is swung out.

we have had yakima tell us that this is not true. they do not authorize use of these on sprinters or other rv's. by telling people this you are setting them up for quite a lawsuit if and when something would happen on the road. Yakima will be cleared of liability in their fine print and our insurance would have an out for doing something unauthorized on our vehicle. we bought an entire $2000 setup because of comments like yours and then talked directly with yakima - both on the phone and in online chats. the only one we can find for our airstream Mercedes chassis is the stowaway 2.

@Melissa This is a great point and I appreciate you passing that one to me but the Sprinter van is not a typical RV chassis as it's also is a regular van. The issue with RV's and bike racks is the extended distance from the rear bumper of the vehicle and the rear axle that exaggerates the movements of bumps. Since the Sprinter has the same distance here as a standard van it is an exception.

Hi, I have a Yakima Foldclick bike rack. If I put it on my Fiat Ducato van (with two rear doors) will I be able to open the doors?

@MarionB That bike rack is one that was never sold in the US which means we don't have any fit info on it. You'd need to check with Yakima AU/NZ to see about the fit info on it. It's weird but the US Yakima and the Australian Yakima are totally different companies.
