Wiring Up a 7-Way # 20246 to a Trailer without a Reverse Light Circuit
Updated 07/07/2014 | Published 07/05/2014 >
Question:
The cable on an rv I recently acquired appeared frayed so I purchased a heavy-duty 7 blade connector with 8foot molded cable part number 20246 to replace it. As I was removing the trailer cable I noticed it only has six wires no blue and the connector has six blades with an empty center. How can I adapt the connector I purchased to use?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The center pin of the 7-way is the reverse light circuit, if your trailer does not have the need for a reverse light circuit then you do not have to use it. You would just connect all of the other wires and leave that one unused.
To see how a 7-way typically gets wire up check out the picture I attached. You will want to wire the leads of the # 20246 by function to the trailer wiring. The yellow wire of the 7-Way # 20246 would not be used as it goes to the center pole.
