Is There A Way To Move Slipper Springs Above 7K Axles On Tandem Enclosed Trailer?
Updated 03/11/2026 | Published 03/06/2026 >
Question:
I have a new enclosed trailer with tandem 7k axles. The leaf springs are slipper springs. I want to move the springs above the axles. Do you have a kit for this application? I see the Dexter conversion over under kit specs out double eye leaf springs…

Hey Shawn!
So we've come across folks wanting to flip the axle under the slipper springs, and it CAN be done with Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 but there are a few things to note.
Slipper springs move around more than standard leaf springs, so instead of using the kit to bolt the new spring seat onto the axle, you'll need to have it welded on for more structural integrity. On top of that, the U-Bolts included in the kit won't work as they'll be too small for the larger 2" wide slipper springs; you'd have to source that elsewhere or make a U-bolt kit on your own.
Another option is to install taller hangers for your slipper springs. If you want to go this route, let me know and I can help match something up. Both options will require some modification and attention to detail. A good trailer shop could help you if need be.
Let me know what you think! What is your end goal? Is this to accommodate larger wheels/tires or just get better ride height for tow vehicle?

I want more ground clearance under the trailer. I don’t want to drag in the rear at every turn on an incline. Even with the added height I think I will still weld on drag wheels on the back of trailer as well.
