Can Malone Axis Load Roller MAL52VR Be Used On T-Slot Crossbar?

Updated 03/12/2026 | Published 03/05/2026

Question:

How would I go about mounting this roller to the T-slot/channel on a typical truck bad rack/roof rack? I specifically have elevate crossbars with a T-slot on top and I am looking to mount this to the rear crossbar to assist in loading kayaks and my flycraft boat. Thank you!

The Malone Axis # MAL52VR is designed to bolt onto the Malone bed extenders, so there's not going to be an off-the-shelf way to get this to work with your Elevate crossbars.

You would need to get some bolts that fit into your crossbar slots, and then make a bracket to go from the crossbar to the Axis.

The better option would be going with a kayak carrier setup that has load assist like the Malone # MPG113MD which has a pull out feature to help get your Kayak on the roof, but I do not know if it will work well with your Flycraft boat.

On my 2025 Nissan Frontier with Yakima Overhaul HD bed rack, which is slotted on both the upper and lower side of the crossbars. I mounted this roller with the supplied brackets attached to the underside of the crossbar slot. That left the topside of the crossbar clear for any load that may exceed the length of the roller. It can be mounted to t slots in the upper side of the crossbars as well, but the mounting brackets may protrude a bit higher than the roller, so may possibly interfere with a very wide load. This roller is generously long, and replaced a “ladder roller” style that wasn’t really long enough for my boats.
