MaxxAir Vent Cover - Does The Direction Of The EZ-Clip Pins Matter?

Updated 03/05/2026 | Published 03/02/2026

Question:

Does the orientation of the EZ clip pins matter? That is, should the closed end of the pin face the travel direction of the trailer or the open end or does it not matter at all?

Hey Paul, good question. The direction of the clip does not really matter. As long as they are fully inserted, there isn't any risk of them coming out, regardless of which direction they are facing. Movement from travel is not enough to cause them to back out.

What trailer and vent fan setup are you running?

Hi Jesse, Thanks for the reply. We have a 2022 Grand Design Reflection purchased new. The vent fans on the bathroom and kitchen area came standard with that model year trailer, no real data on either of them. I was cleaning and re-caulking them and noticed the pins on one were one way and the opposite on the other. The various pictures I saw on-line showed the pins in random orientations so it just made me wonder if there was or wasn't a preferred insertion direction that would lock the caps down better than another. Thanks again

@Paul I gotcha yea that makes sense. You will be good no matter which way the pins face. You won't have to worry about them backing out. Feel free to come back anytime you need anything!

@JesseM I have them all facing the same direction (open end t0 the rear) because it just looks right. My master carpenter father also taught me to have the slots all in the same direction on cabinet hinges..

I was taught that the closed end on clips like that should face the front of the vehicle, in case a branch or something hit it. This way the branch would be less likely to knock the clip off. In this application, I don’t think that’s very likely, but that’s how I was taught.

@JohnP Hey John, that makes total sense. I agree that isn't a very likely scenario, but I can see how installing them that way could add some peace of mind.
