Will Adding Timbrens to My Ford F-350 Super Duty Help with the Chucking When Towing 5th Wheel?
Updated 03/09/2026 | Published 02/28/2026 >
Question:
Will the timbren SES add additional bump ahocks to my 5th wheel hitch. AEON description says they are progressive in strength as being loaded so from that I would say not however we are dealing in the bs advertising millennium.

Hello Bruce,
Great question.
The correct Timbren kit for your 2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty is the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System - Rear Axle # TFR350SDJ. This fits both 2WD and 4WD models.
Timbrens replace your factory bump stops with a progressive rubber spring. They engage as the suspension compresses under load and can help reduce rear-end squat when towing.
If your truck is squatting and the trailer is riding nose-high, that can sometimes contribute to ride issues. In that case, the Timbrens may help by keeping the truck more level.
However, if your truck is already sitting level when hooked up, Timbrens likely will not have much effect on chucking, since chucking is typically caused by fore and aft movement between the truck and trailer rather than vertical load support. I would also like to mention that when unloaded, Timbrens can sometimes make the ride feel a bit firmer. I usually recommend them for trucks that are under load more consistently.
The first place I would start is making sure your weight is properly distributed throughout the 5th wheel. Uneven loading can cause all kinds of towing issues. Your pin weight should generally be 20 to 25 percent of your total trailer weight. The best way to confirm that is to load up exactly how you would for a trip and head to your nearest CAT Scale.
Here is how to calculate your pin weight:
1. Weigh the truck and 5th wheel together at the CAT scale with the steer axle on pad 1, drive axle on pad 2, and trailer axles on pad 3. Save the ticket.
2. Drop the trailer in the lot and keep it loaded the same.
3. Weigh the truck only with the steer axle on pad 1 and drive axle on pad 2. Save that ticket.
4. Subtract the truck-only weight from the combined truck weight. The difference is your pin weight.
What kind of suspension components are currently on your 5th wheel? When you the email, you can reply directly with a picture of your suspension and the measurement from eye to eye on your equalizer. That will help me see what you are working with. Upgrading suspension parts on the trailer side can make a noticeable difference in ride quality.
Are you getting things ready for your next adventure? Where are you headed next?

We have been using Timbrens on our last 2 F350s, short bed and long bed. They kill the squat look and most importantly have perfectly leveled the truck with our fifth wheel. Im not sure if they are intended to reduce chucking, but I can tell youbwe experience very little chucking with our Gen-Y gooseneck setup and Brinkley z3100 unit. But to be fair, Timbrens have basically been on since day 1 after bringing the truck home. I hate the squat. Much smoother ride with them ON when towing vs not having them installed. Stay safe.

I used them on my 2020 f350 and now on my 2024 F350. They work great when under a load and really helps to keep the truck flat when cornering. Easy to install and zero maintenance!

The Timbren is more like a soft overload spring I highly doubt they will do anything to prevent chucking. The biggest culprits are the hitch itself, weight distribution of the trailer, and tow angle. If your tow vehicle when connected to the trailer is sitting on the bump stops the timbrens should help reduce any bucking.

I installed Timbren's on my 2024 Ford F-350 single rear wheel crew cab short bed pickup. I tow a 9,000 lbs weight camping trainer with 800 lbs tongue weight. I initially was not happy with the amount of sagging or dropping in the rear once I hooked the trailer up, so I installed a 1" spacer so that the Timbrens come into contact sooner resulting in less sagging in the rear. With the 1" spacer, my truck sits perfectly level as I tow my camping trailer. I am very happy with my purchase of Timbren rear suspension enhancements

They definitely helped with some squat and an overall smoother ride. The plastic lube plate helped as well, less chugging and noise. I drove it 2,500 across country in 5 days, forgot it was there at times. Fifths wheel is about 14K or more pulled by a 2025 F350 diesel longbed with B &W 25K hitch. Glad I installed the Timbrens.
