Is the Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for 5th Wheel Rails 16055 designed to Be Used Permanently?

Updated 03/05/2026 | Published 02/27/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a question about your gooseneck plate for 5th wheel rails. I bought a truck that has the rails in the bed, I have no need for the 5th wheel but I do pull a gooseneck trailer hualing hay and farm equipment. Is this plate OK for a permanent hitch or just for occasional use.

Hey Kevin, congrats on your new truck. The Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for 5th Wheel Rails item # 16055 can definitely be used regularly to haul your gooseneck trailer around. It is designed to be used as a permanent gooseneck hitch not just a one off or here and there use.

The Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for 5th Wheel Rails item # 16055 is going to attach directly to your F-250's 5th wheel rails with the included pins. It has 3" of offset built into the base to help with turning clearance. The 2-5/16" gooseneck ball has a 25,000 lbs towing capacity. To keep it from walking away you may want to install one of the item # TR63254 locks in place of one of the four included pins.

To make towing with a gooseneck trailer easier, I recommend the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness item # C56000. This harness puts a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck and allows you to keep the one on your bumper. You won't have to get down underneath your bumper to connect your trailer.

What kind of gooseneck trailer do you have?

Works great and very strong for everyday use. I pull a gooseneck dump trailer frequently with it. The truck I use came with 5th wheel rails and i didnt want to have to go thru the trouble of removing the rails and adding an under the bed gooseneck style hitch so i bought this curt plate. You wont be disappointed or regret it.
