Did Gen-Y Change the Design of Their 5" Offset Gooseneck Ball for OEM Prep Package?

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 02/11/2026

Question:

Hello Looking for the hitch ball for my Brinkley Z3100 that is on order. Truck is F350 Platinum 6.75 box. Factory supplied Gen Y gooseneck on 5th wheel. Photos of GY hitch show two arrangements - one using front two pucks and middle, and more recent seems to be using middle and rear two pucks - which also provide rings for safety chains. Did Gen Y recently make a change? Will the GY43XR be in the middle/rear configuration? Thank you.

Hello Dave,

They did indeed change their design.

The Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Ford OEM Puck Systems - 5" Offset - 25,000 lbs # GY43XR is the correct one for your 2026 Ford F-350 with 6 3/4' bed. The design used to install into the middle hole and the two pucks closest to the cab. On the new design, it installs into the center gooseneck ball hole and the two pucks closest to the tailgate.

I’ve attached images of both versions for comparison, the older design is the one with the larger black bracket, and the newer design has the more streamlined base with the integrated safety chain connection points.

The # GY43XR you receive will be the updated middle-and-rear puck configuration.

If your Brinkley is not coming with the safety chain, you will also want to grab a Safety Chain with 2 Hooks for Gen-Y 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - 84" Long - 26,000 lbs # GY49GR.

Congrats on the New Brinkley!!! Where are you taking it for the first trip?

I have the new Gen-Y design. I use it with my Brinkley 3610 and F350. It works just fine.

Both systems will work with your truck. I would go with the second generation because it locks down the chain mounts. The older style you will have to add chain mounts to the back holes. With the new style you have more space up front of truck bed , happy travels
