Can D&W Inc. Spray-Port RV Exterior Hose Hookup Backflow Preventer Be Replaced With Brass

Updated 03/04/2026 | Published 02/07/2026

Question:

A backflow preventer on the exterior spray port on my RV cracked when we are traveling during the winter due to freezing conditions. I just ordered the DandW Inc. Spray-Port RV Exterior Hose Hookup from you and I read that I can replace the PVC backflow preventer with a brass one. Is this true and if so, is it recommended?

Hi Rick; the backflow preventer can be replaced with a brass one on the # PF147006, although we don't have any parts that would allow you to do it. That is something you would have to pick up locally. I'm sure it would be more durable so it would be a good idea if you're concerned about the cracking you just experienced.

Where are you headed next with your RV?

Hey Rick, did you end up swapping the PVC backflow preventer on your Spray-Port for a brass one? Knowing how it held up would be helpful for others dealing with freezing conditions. Where are you headed next with your RV?
