How to Power a Backup Camera Through the Trailers 7-Way Cord

Published 01/19/2026

Question:

I would like to access the 12v power on my 7 way trailer wire harness so that I could power a backup camera at the back of a boat trailer. Do you have some kind of wire harness that I could use to do that?

Hey John, welcome back. There's no specific harness that will connect to your 7-way cord on your boat trailer but I have a solution.

To power the backup camera on the Furrion Vision S+ item # FR57AD, you'll want to use 18-Gauge 2-Wire Bonded Parallel Conductor Wire item # SWC97FR and splice directly into the 12v power circuit and the ground wire. This wire is sold by the foot. The thicker 18 gauge wire is going to do a better job of carrying the voltage over the distance you're covering.

What kind of tow vehicle are you using? Newer model trucks have a voltage regulation system that doesn't provide enough consistent power through the 12v so you may need an additional adapter. If you could tell me your tow vehicle's year, make, and model, where it says Add Comment, I'll be able to tell if you need one.

Thanks I have a 2024 toyota sequoia. If I hardwired the cameras I would probably use 14 or 16 AWG to minimize any voltage drop. I think that I would also like to place a fuse in-between the trailer plug and camera. I tried to reply earlier to our correspondence but was not able to reply. I wanted to know if I could get another camera added to the system you recommended. I think I am going to have to put two cameras on the back of the trailer because of the outboard motor. I would place a camera on both sides of the outboard motor. What camera would you add to the Furrion Vision S+ item # FR57AD? Thanks

@JohnT You're welcome. Thanks for the vehicle information. We haven't had any power regulation issues with the Toyota's so you'll be good. 14 or 16 AWG will definitely minimize voltage drop. You can add an additional backup camera to the Furrion Vision S+ item # FR57AD. You'll need the Furrion Vision S+ Wireless RV Backup Camera item # FR24AD

@JerredH Jared, Thanks for the info. I see that the earliest delivery date is Mar 4. How realistic is that date?
