What is Widest Point of Demco EZ Latch Gooseneck Coupler

Question:

My ball is in a tight location. What is the widest measurement on the coupler? Also in some photos the holes in the tube are inline with the latch and in others they are 90 degrees from the latch. Which version will I receive?

Hey Hieu, the overall width of the Demco EZ Latch Coupler part # DM73KV that you referenced is 7 inches at its widest point.

That's a good eye on the hole orientation! The actual orientation is 120 degrees out from the latch of the coupler. The product pictures show an early model/sample we got that we took pictures of and it looks like they moved the holes by the time they put it into production.

Excellent response by Jameson C. I would only add that the one I received is not exactly at 90 degrees from the holes. When installing I clocked the latch at 120 degrees and the other option would have been 300 degrees.

@DennisH. I had the same with the holes not exactly 90 degrees but it didn't seem to be at any particular orientation. It was off by maybe 15 degrees. I suspect there is not a hole alignment in their welding jig and it gets "eyeballed". I don't think it detracts from functionality though.

The holes being 90 degrees out from the latch were an issue for me. I needed them to be inline (front to back, not side to side). However the old coupler didn’t have any holes at all !! This coupler actually went fully up into the mounting tube and bottomed out in the correct height. So it worked for this trailer. The easy latching mechanism is much easier to use than the old latch. Overall very happy with this coupler. Actually the ladies that use the trailer are much happier!

The coupler has a smaller footprint then other styles if worried about it being tight. The holes on the one I purchased were not 90 degrees which was annoying however I installed a new outer tube also so I was able to position it straight. Otherwise it would have been a problem.
