Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 01/02/2026

Question:

Looking for chains for 235/65 R - 16 tires. Ladder pattern or perhaps a diamond pattern depending on price, and Cam tensioning. Some chain suppliers say, Not for Plowing. I plow my driveway no commercial or other use, but its about 450. We do get ice, so traction is crucial. Also, Id like to know the chain thickness . Thank you.

Hey Joe, thanks for the information. Tire chains can definitely be used on vehicles plowing snow. Since it's your own driveway you'll want to go easy on how aggressive of a set you get if your driveways paved.

If you're dealing with light ice, I recommend the Konig Commercial Truck Tire Chains item # TH01571245. These are a diamond pattern set of tire chains that have built-in tensioners to keep them snug on your 235/65-16 tires. These are going to be the easiest on your driveway if it's paved while also providing you with great traction. These chains have 16mm links.

The Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains item # TC2829 would be a bit more aggressive if you're dealing with thicker ice and don't have a paved driveway. They have V-bar studs that really dig into the ice and ground to give you traction. These are ladder pattern chains that you'll want to use item # TCMA2 to keep them snug on your tires. These have 5.5 mm links.

What kind of surface does your driveway have?
