Is Wrangler or Maverick a Good Vehicle to Get Flat Towed

Updated 01/02/2026 | Published 12/26/2025

Question:

What has been your experience with prepping a Ford Maverick to be towed. We have a 2017 Winnebago. Looking to get a toad. Want to stay light so either a two-door Jeep Wrangler or a Ford Maverick. Hybrid and either AWD of FWD.

Hey Wrede, the Wrangler is by far the most popular flat towed vehicle and it's about as simple and easy as it gets so when in doubt that's a super solid choice that is tried and trued.

As far as the Maverick goes we have seen a lot of interest in it as a flat towed vehicle. It would work too as we have done quite a few flat tow setups for these vehicles as well. If you are wanting something a little more modern and refined feeling this would be the way to go over the Wrangler. Let me know which you go with and I'll help pick you out all the things you'd need.

Had tow bar and Invisibrake installed, looks great, neat front, looking forward to using, as soon as parking sensors can be brought back on line. Hard to solve, would appreciate any suggestions as mechanical instal seems correct.

@RbN Are the parking sensors showing errors like that you are too close to something?

Jameson I have installed the Roadmaster tow bar on my 2025 AWD Maverick and it works very well. I have a Mecedes Sprinter V6 diesel Leasure class b+. I put the tow bar on myself and will say that you will do some cutting (didn’t like cutting up a new car) and if I needed help Road Master did come to my rescue. The Maverick does tow well and I would suggest a braking system for the toad. Most state it’s a law that if you are over 3000 lbs.. I have a Blue Ox unit and I bought it used but it was a newer model ( the seller said it had never been used), it didn’t work worth a dam, it locked up my front brakes on the Maverick at 55 mph and put flat spot on both front tires but the tow bar worked well under this situation. I call Blue Ox and sent the unit in to have them check it out, when I got it back it has very well. So Blue Ox does stand behind their units. Just for your information I lost about 2 mpg pulling the Maverick compared to just driving the camper by itself. Hope this will answer some of your questions
