Which Ratchet Strap Kit Is Best For Tie Down Rings On Trailer Where Normal Hooks Slip Out Of?

Updated 12/17/2025 | Published 12/16/2025

Question:

My trailer has small tie-down rings that regular hooks sometimes slip out of. Which strap style will stay put the best during bumps or rough roads?

Terrence, if your anchor points are on the smaller side, the S-hook kit # e92NR is the most secure because those hooks have spring-loaded keepers that physically close around the ring so they can’t bounce out. The double-J kit # e42SV is the next-best option - the J-shape tends to nest nicely in D-rings without twisting or slipping. I'm partial towards the S-hook if you think you have a small enough ring or anchor point for the snap to be effective there.

Flat hooks only shine when you’ve got stake pockets or a flat rail, so they’re not going to work at all for small loops or D-rings or anything like that.

What are you usually hauling when the trailer gets bouncy - bikes, furniture, or equipment?

I have those tiny tie-down rings on my jet ski trailer. Would the S-hooks still fit, or are they too big?

@Alex Hey Alex, the S-hooks on the # e92NR straps will fit most 1" rings as long as the keeper can close around them. They’re not oversized like some of the 2" heavy-duty hooks, so they tend to work well on smaller utility trailers. If your rings are really recessed or angled tight, a soft loop like # e74BR in addition to the straps is an easy workaround.
