Recommended Air Bags for a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 w/a Diesel Engine

Updated 11/26/2025 | Published 11/25/2025

Question:

Hi, Ive got a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab with the 3.0L diesel. Were looking to buy a slide in camper this winter and wanted to add some air bags to help level the truck, especially when towing a boat too. I had the Firestone Ride-Rites on my Tacoma, but apparently they dont fit on the diesel Sierra. Are there any other recommended products? I liked having the air bags isolated from each other previously and I think that will be critical with the camper. Thanks in advance,

Hey Ben. So long as your 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 does not have the adaptive ride control feature you can use the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs with Internal Jounce Bumpers item # AL88288 you were looking at.

The Air Lift item # AL88288 is compatible with the diesel engine models of the 2023 Sierra 1500's. It also works with both 2WD and 4WD setups. These air bags have a 5,000 lbs capacity that will keep the rear end of your Sierra level when you using your slide in camper. All mounting brackets and hardware are included for installation.

I recommend adding the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System item # AL74000 to your truck. This onboard compressor will allow you to adjust the PSI in your air bags individually from your phone.

Does your Sierra have adaptive ride control?

Thanks, Jerred. I do not have adaptive ride control so we are good there. I also wanted to be clear that I was not really looking at one product - that's just where I became exasperated and sent you all a note. Are there good/better/best options that you could recommend? And I do want the onboard air, but would much prefer analog. There's too much electronic crap on that truck that barely works as is.

@BenG You're welcome! If you have a 4WD model the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs with Internal Jounce Bumpers item # AL57388 would be a better option price wise. Comparably they're pretty similar setups bracket wise. The one thing you will give up is the jounce bumper that item # AL88288 includes. Think of it as a fail safe if the pressure in your air bags drops below 5 psi. It'll keep the air bags from breaking because these have to have at least 5 psi of air in them at all times. If your truck is 2WD the Air Lift item # AL88288 is going to be the only option. Overall this is the better option. If you want to keep the jounce bumpers you could also use the Air Lift item # AL88388 but only if you have 4WD. Additionally, none of the Firestone kits are compatible with the diesel engine equipped 2023 GMC 1500's. For an analog dual path air compressor, I recommend the Firestone Air Command Heavy Duty Air Compressor item # F2219.
