Updated 11/26/2025 | Published 11/24/2025

Question:

I’ve never installed a hitch before, is this one easy enough to do myself on my 2025 Telluride? Just have basic tools kit. thank you!

You can probably handle it, Natalie - especially if you’re mechanically inclined or have someone to help. The TowSmart # TS84ZR uses factory weld nuts and is a bolt-on install - no drilling required.

You’ll lower the exhaust (not all the way off, you don't have to unbolt anything) and lower the spare tire, trim a small section of the fascia, and then torque the bolts to spec M10: 40 ft-lbs, 1/2: 75 ft-lbs, M12: 68 ft-lbs. Expect about an hour or 1.5 hours for a first-time DIY install. We show 50 minutes for install, but that is usually if you have a lift and full garage setup.

If you’re towing, grab the correct Curt wiring harness - # C93FV for LX/S trims or # C29ZV for all other trims - along with the Ball Mount Kit # 989891.

Awesome, thank you Andrew! I feel a lot better about giving this a try. I’ll grab a torque wrench and see if I can get my husband to help lift it. Appreciate the detailed steps!

@Natalie You're welcome! And yes, with a second set of hands the whole install goes really smoothly. Just take your time lining up the hitch and you'll be golden. If you run into anything weird along the way, drop another comment and I’ll help you out. Enjoy the new setup!
