Question:
We have a ford escape 2023 platinum AWD. It has the trailer package with 4 pin trailer light plugin. We need a 7 pin for the trailer we will get. We also need a brake controller. The trailer will be about 2300lbs with one axel. What do you recommend?

Hey Brian. To add a 7-way connector to your 2023 Ford Escape Platinum you'll need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. This kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your Escape with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle, like yours, with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on your Escape's battery, the white wire to a suitable ground, and the yellow wire to the accessory circuit. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's battery. This kit includes all the wiring, connectors, and circuit breakers you'll need.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Universal Wiring Harness item # RED52VR. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes when your Escape decelerates.
I really like the Tow-Pro Liberty item # RED52VR because of its unique installation method where the only visible portion is the control knob that's about the size of a nickel. The main unit is hidden away inside your dash to be completely out of the way and out of sight.
The included wiring harness is all you'll need to get the Tow-Pro Liberty item # RED52VR installed. There are no plug in harnesses available for your Escape.
What kind of trailer do you have?
