Can I Haul Gooseneck Flat Bed Trailer And 5th Wheel With Gooseneck Ball 2-5/16" ?

Updated 12/12/2025 | Published 10/29/2025

Question:

I haul a flatbed during the week and my fifth-wheel on weekends. Can I use the same gooseneck ball for both? meaning I don't need to put fifth wheel hitch back on when using my fifth wheel trailer? I've heard you can retain the gooseneck for it. thanks, brian

Brian - you can, and it’s a slick setup. The MORryde GooseTech pin boxes all connect directly to your existing 2-5/16" ball. They absorb shock through a rubber cushion, ride smoother than a normal king-pin, and free up your bed for weekday hauling.

What trailer do you have? I can confirm the right match.

As a start, check out these options to see if they match up to your pin box and trailer's Gross Towing Weight. If not, let me know and I'll help you out, or you can check out the attached article that covers this stuff.

# MR77MV for Lippert 1116 11,500 lbs to 14,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR39MV for Lippert 1716 11,500 lbs to 14,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR97MV for Lippert 1621 14,000 lbs to 18,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR24MV for Lippert Rhino 18,000lbs + Gross Towing Weight

Also need Safety Chains # GY49GR

Thanks! My fifth wheel is a 2020 Keystone Cougar 315RLS with a Lippert 1116 pin box — weighs around 12,000 lbs loaded. Will the MR77MV fit, and do I have to change anything on my gooseneck ball?

@Brian Spot on, Brian. The MORryde GooseTech # MR77MV is the perfect fit for your Cougar’s 1116 box and 12K weight. It bolts right on, uses the same 2-5/16" ball as your flatbed trailer, and gives you a cushioned ride from its rubber shear spring. You won’t need to change your ball unless you ever find yourself tight on turns with a short bed - then an offset ball (specific to your hitch brand) can give you an extra few inches of clearance. Otherwise, just add the safety chains # 49150 and you’re good to go.

I don’t see a 1621 style pin box with 11,500- 14,000 capacity in the goosetech. I see you have one listed starting at 14,000. My fifth wheel gvwr is 12000lbs So curious what I will need
