Is There A Way To Convert 5th Wheel Pin Box To Work With Gooseneck Ball And Smooth Out The Ride?

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 10/29/2025

Question:

I’d like to switch to a gooseneck setup for easier hookup, but our old adapter made the ride rough. is there one you'd recommend? old one was just solid metal I think, it was hard on the truck and load. went back to 5th wheel for now..

Ellen, definitely. The new generation of gooseneck pin boxes, like the MORryde GooseTech series, use an internal rubber cushion that soaks up road shock. They tow smoother than some outdated adapters and don’t need air bags or maintenance which is a huge plus in my opinion. Plus, you can ditch that big steel hitch and have your bed free again.

What kind of trailer do you have? I can match the correct GooseTech model for you. For example, here are some common options we have available. If none of these match up to yours, just let me know and I'll find you the correct one!

# MR77MV for Lippert 1116 11,500 lbs to 14,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR39MV for Lippert 1716 11,500 lbs to 14,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR97MV for Lippert 1621 14,000 lbs to 18,000 lbs Gross Towing Weight
# MR24MV for Lippert Rhino 18,000lbs + Gross Towing Weight
Safety chains # GY49GR are also required when adding a gooseneck hitch.

Thanks! It’s a 2016 Keystone Cougar 326RDS with the Lippert 1116 pin box - about 12,000 lbs loaded. Would that put us with the MR77MV? Also, does that change how tight we can turn with our short-bed F-250?

@Ellen Exactly right, Ellen; your Cougar’s 1116 pin box makes the MORryde GooseTech # MR77MV the perfect fit. That’ll put you right in the 11,500 – 14,000 lb sweet spot and give you the rubber cushion for a smoother tow. Since you’ve got a short-bed F-250, your turning clearance will be about the same as before, but if you ever feel tight on cab clearance, you can add a small-offset gooseneck ball. The exact part number depends on which hitch you have - Ford’s factory puck system uses a different style than a B&W or Curt under-bed kit - so once you confirm your hitch brand, I can point you to the correct offset ball.
