Will Curt Echo Brake Controller Work with a 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Hybrid and Regen Braking?

Updated 11/06/2025 | Published 10/27/2025

Question:

Hello, How does the Curt Echo work with a Jeep Wrangler 4xe hybrid with regenerative braking? In a normal Jeep, the brake lights dont come on unless you press the brake pedal. In a 4xe, the brake lights come on anytime you are using Regen, which is anytime you lift the gas pedal. You dont have to apply brakes to stop. Does the controller work without the actual brake pedal being pressed? Thanks.

Hey Steve, thanks for reaching out!

I completely see where you're coming from and I honestly track with your logic, so I hit up some forums to see if anyone had some real-world experience with this and in the 4xe forums people were saying the Curt Echo # C51180 is actually a great solution and the Regen braking doesn't affect it at all. Not sure how or why, but multiple people said this, and even said they were super happy with the performance, so I definitely recommend going with the Echo.

If you plan on towing fairly often then you might consider using the Echo In-Line # C79DR instead. This has more cost upfront, but it secures under your 4xe and is hidden so you don't have to remove it just to keep someone from taking advantage of an opportunity and taking it while walking by.

No matter which one you go with, I also recommend grabbing the Button # C83HR so you can tow screen-free and keep your eyes on the road while still having a way to manually override the brakes in an emergency if the need arises (hopefully it doesn't).

What do you think? Which one would you rather go with?

Thanks for the research and suggestion. We'll plan on getting the Echo and the button when we are ready to start towing the trailer in a few months. We have to get through the latest fire recall first though. Thanks again!
