Brake Controller Plug Location on a 2025 Acura MDX

Question:

Have 2025 Acura MDX with 7 pin factory tow kit. Has 8 pin connector horizontal under dash. Would like control knob brake controller. Would also like plug in adaptor cable. Thanks

Hey Gary, it's great to hear from you again!

The 8-Pin connector you found won't be for a brake controller. When I looked up the online manual for your 2025 MDX it stated on page 411 that there's a gray 4-pin plug under the left side instrument panel for connecting a brake controller to. If you'd like to use an in-cab controller, like the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR you were looking at, then you'll need to connect the following wires from the brake controller to the following wires on your MDX:

Blue - Light Green
Black - Yellow
White - Black
Red - Gray

Please note that you'll need to cut off the gray plug on the Acura wiring and splice these wires directly to your factory wiring.

What trailer are you going to be towing?

Will be towing 2026 Rockwood Roo 17E single axel . The Curt 51523 adaptor cable no longer available? for use with the Curt controller. I do like the Redarc Tow Pro Elite too Acura MDX Type S rated for 5200lbs with 7 pin tow package.

@GaryW The Curt Adapter # C51523 is still available, yes. We just have it listed to fit the 2020 MDX as the last model year so I have no idea if it will work or not. I even checked with all of our other manufacturers and none of them had one for a 2025. It could be that the gray plug will fit but the wiring pinout is different, but I unfortunately don't have a way to confirm this.

@JonG Acura did provide 4 pin cable connector (gray) with open wires. Blue ..batt veh. feed sky Blue.. brake sw Brown/Wht.. trailer brakes Black.. ground Will this work with the Redarc Tow - Pro Elite ? Thanks Gary

@GaryW Yes it will! Just connect these wires from the Redarc to these functions on your cable connector: Blue - 7-Way Output to Trailer Black - 12V Power White - Ground Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake pedal is pressed)
