Question:

I have a 2023 Mercedes Sprinter beast mode. Storyteller. I saw a video online a guy doing install for the trailer brake controller with a link to your website. The problem I’m having is I can’t seem to find the plug-in play set up on your website and I don’t wanna be slicing any wires. You could send me the links so I can put the order together that would be perfect. Thank you so much.

Hey Steven, thanks for reaching out. If you want to add a brake controller to your 2023 Sprinter 2500 without doing any cutting or splicing, the best option for that is the following:

- Redarc Tow-Pro Link Bluetooth Brake Controller - Off-Road Mode - 4 Axles - Proportional # RED57AR

This plugs in directly behind your 7-way at the back of the vehicle. No cutting or splicing required. The main module mounts behind the bumper, then you have a Bluetooth remote you can put in the cab, or you can control it with the Redarc smartphone app.

There are under-dash controllers you can use too like the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # RED44FR you were looking at, but this does require splicing since you have to hardwire the controller. There are no plug-in options for an under dash controller at this time, so in my opinion, that Tow-Pro Link is definitely the way to go.

Does your sprinter have a factory 7-way? What trailer will you be hauling?

Yes it has a factory 7 way. I have the green plug under my drivers seat. I watched a guy do an install on YouTube. He plugged into the green plus under the seat.

@StevenC Yea unfortunately we don't have any custom brake controller options that will plug into that green plug. I believe Tekonsha used to make a custom pigtail for a Sprinter, but that isn't available right now. Tekonsha's parent company went belly-up so we can't get product from them anymore. You can cut off that green plug and hardwire an under dash controller like the Redarc # RED52VR. If you don't want to do any cutting or splicing though, that Tow-Pro Link # RED57AR will be your best bet.

@JesseM. There will be a diagram or something showing me which colors to splice together?

@Steve I don't have a diagram but I can tell you the universal pigtail that comes with the brake controller uses standard wire colors (white, red, blue and black). The wires on the vehicle side SHOULD be the same colors but they aren't always. The black wire is for 12v to brake controller. The red wire is for the stop lamp switch. The white wire is ground. The blue wire is output from controller to trailer brakes. If the wires on the vehicle side aren't color coded, you should be able to use a wire tester to determine function.

I have about 10,000 trailering miles using the Redarc Tow-Pro Link Bluetooth Brake Controller. It was very simple to install and even easier to use day to day. Once you set the brake gain, you don’t even have to think about it. It simply works every time. Highly recommend.
