Can the PullRite SuperGlide be Used in a Long Bed Truck Without Activating Pivot Feature?

Updated 10/28/2025 | Published 10/13/2025

Question:

If I wanted to use the hitch in a long bed truck and not take advantage of the sliding feature, does the hitch support towing without the companion hitch plate that attaches to the trailer?

Hey Jeff!

The PullRite SuperGlide 5th Wheel Hitch # PUL73RR will need the adapter no matter what. I spoke with my contact at PullRite and they said without the adapter plate to guide it, the hitch will just slam back and forth during towing. If you let me know what pin box you have I can let you know what adapter you need.

I will say that if you for sure know you're going with a long bed truck then I highly recommend going with the stationary option as part # PUL79ZR which is not only going to save you some money, but it will also be a lot easier to heave in and out of your truck.

I notice that you purchased the PullRite Custom Installation Kit # PUL99RR for a Ford truck just recently. If this is what you're needing to hook the 5th wheel hitch up to, then we'll need the HD Super Hitch # PUL78RR instead because of how it installs.

Do you have the EOM puck system, or are you installing that in-bed kit?

Hi, No, I do not have the OEM puck system. The rail system will be used instead. To clarify a comment above, I currently have a pullrite superglide and necessary adapter plates on the fifth wheel camper. Are you indicating that I should not use the sliding hitch on a long bed? I realize it is not necessary to use a sliding hitch with a long bed, but was not aware of any risks or issues with doing so. Thanks

@Jeff You can definitely use a sliding hitch on a long bed and it will work just fine. I was just going with the mindset that you didn't have the hitch already, which is why I mentioned the stationary one (mainly for less weight). You're good to go with what you have!

@JonG Thanks for your reply. Another question if I may, but on PUL99RR that I just purchased instead. The install instructions start by measuring from the back/rear of the truck bed. Do you know if this measurement is the same for a short and long bed? The measurement per the instructions is 31-1/2 inches. Thanks again!

@Jeff Yes, the measurement is the same for both the long and short beds with the Kit # PUL99RR. I confirmed this with my contact at PullRite for you.
