Will Seaflo Variable Flow Pump Be Quieter Than Old Shurflo Pump?

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 10/11/2025

Question:

This pump is described as Variable Flow. Does that mean instead of cycling on and off every second at low water usage, it runs slower, thus quieter? Some reviews say this is a very quiet pump, others say it is loud. Is there really variation in pumps, or is it how people have mounted it? I have a 94 camper with a 2.8GPM 40PSI pump under the sink, and am looking for low cost ways to reduce the noise. Ive considered adding an accumulator tank but Id still have a loud pump. Would that even be necessary with a variable flow pump like this one?

Hello Warren, thanks for reaching out. You are correct about the variable flow on the Seaflo Diaphragm Pump # SE58FR. The variable flow is based on demand so it would not run as hard with lower water usage making it slightly quieter. We have found these Seaflo pumps to be quieter compared to other brands, especially when replacing older Shurflo models, which appears to be what you have. Having it securely mounted will help as well.

The pump in your picture is original, correct? I think I see the date 03-94 on there.

Yes, I have the original '94 Shurflo pump. Do you think this Seaflo SE58FR pump is among the quietest for a 3 gpm 45 psi pump in this price range? I'm assuming I would not need an accumulator tank, since it is variable flow?

@WarrenH Yes # SE58FR is definitely among the quietest options we offer. An accumulator tank is not required.

@JesseM Thanks for your help! I will get that when I have time to install it, and probably post a video on YouTube about it too, at HartzHomestead.
