Question:

I have a 13-foot Scamp trailer and would like to buy a basic dc to dc charger to charge my single lead acid trailer battery while towing with my 2014 v6 Chevy Silverado Can you recommend a basic charger/controller? I will install myself. Please include any additional wiring or connectors required. Thanks!

Hey David, thanks for reaching out!

I highly recommend the Redarc Trailer Power Kit w/ Battery Charger and Monitor # RED37PR for your setup for a few reasons; it uses the 12V power from the 7-Way connector, Redarc battery chargers are proven and reliable, and you have the option to eventually add some solar panels to the setup to help with battery bank charging.

I'm attaching a wiring diagram from the instructions, but if you reference the linked instructions it also has some pointers on size and gauge of wiring needed for this kit based off of how much wiring you'll be using. It does come with the 23-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit # RED76FR though, so you won't have to purchase that separately.

Hey David, how did the Redarc Trailer Power Kit work out for charging your Scamp trailer’s battery while towing with your Silverado? Your update could make it easier for the next person setting up a similar system.
