Question:

I have a 2025 Volvo XC40 with hitch and 4 pin electrical connector. Can I use the Prodigy RF brake controller that I already have? What 4 pin to 7 pin adaptor do you recommend?

Hi Susan!

You can definitely use your Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller - Trailer Mount w Remote - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # TK94FR with your new 2025 Volvo XC40, but you will need a bit more than just an adapter.

Having the 4-flat already makes the process easier, but you will need the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L to get the controller working. This will piggyback off that 4-flat and you will just need to run a wire to the battery, and you are good to go. It provides the needed 12v power to run the Prodigy RF controller. We haven't done this install on an XC40 yet, but I did include an install video we did on a 21 XC60 for you to check out.

Hi Susan, how did things go getting the Prodigy RF controller working with your Volvo XC40 using the 7-way upgrade kit? Your update could make it easier for the next person setting up a similar tow vehicle.

@SusanH Sorry about that. There is actually a 4-flat on the side of the # ETBC7L next to the 7-way as well, so you will not need any adapters once it's installed. ^___^
