Weight Distribution Recommendation for 10,000 lb Bumper Pull Trailer

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 09/22/2025

Question:

I have a 10,000lbs 38 foot rv bumper pull and I need a wight distribution hitch that will control sway and bouncing. I now use a curt chain bar hitch and the swaying and bounce is bad on rough roads and when trucks drive by on the highway. Could you guild me in the right direction for the best hitch?

Hey Dane, it sounds like the weight distribution system you have now is rated too low for the amount of tongue weight your trailer has. For that a Curt TruTrack part # C17501 would be a good replacement as it has a tongue weight range of 1,000 to 1,500 lb. Have you tried moving any cargo forward in the trailer to gain more tongue weight?

Hey Dane, how did things go after switching to the Curt TruTrack weight distribution hitch? Did it help reduce the sway and bounce you were seeing on rough roads? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same issue.
