What SumoSprings Should I Get for My 2018 Colorado Diesel with Camper Shell and Towing Trailer?
Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 09/16/2025 >
Question:
I have a 18 Colorado 4wd diesel. I almost always have a pop up camper shell on that weighs close to 300 lbs. I sometimes also tow a 16 camp trailer with a tongue weight just shy of 500 lbs. should I get the 1000 or 1500 pound set of sumo springs. Thanks, Mike

Hello Mike,
Great question, and thanks so much for all the details about your setup!
Since you’ll sometimes be carrying the 300-pound camper shell and sometimes adding the trailer with close to 500 pounds of tongue weight, I recommend going with the 1,500-pound SumoSprings. The SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs – Rear Axle #SS75FR are designed specifically for your diesel Colorado with 4-wheel drive, so they’ll give you the support you need without being overly stiff when unloaded.
I am happy you are going with the SumoSprings over the Timbrens, your ride quality will be much better =)
Have you been on any crazy adventures this year? Do you do a lot of Boondocking with your pop-up camper shell?

Hey Mike, how did the 1,500‑pound SumoSprings work out on your Colorado with the camper shell and trailer? Your feedback could really help others trying to balance similar loads. Sharing how the ride feels now would be great for the next person setting up their truck.
