The brackets on the bottom of the Camco Big Red Portable Gas Campfire w/ 10' Long Hose # CAM58035 are used to secure the red lid over the rest of the campfire. This campfire kit is designed to store in more of a compact way as you can see in the second photo I'm linking to this page.
