Question:
Hello! I’m looking for some chains. I’ve got 35x12.50x17s on my 2017 Wrangler JKU. It does have a 3.5” lift. I’m up in Alaska and am driving through the Atigun pass in early to mid-September. Thanks!

Hey Joshua!
Wow, that's quite the ambitious road trip!
I have 2 different options that I recommend choosing between; I would make an overall recommendation, but in all honesty, I believe you should be the one to make the final decision since the Atigun pass looks to be way more treacherous than anything I've ever driven (the worst was an ice storm on I-70 a number of years ago, but still).
For heavy duty applications you're going to want square links on the chains because they give you the best grip and will break up any ice more efficiently than other chains styles. From here, I recommend either the Titan Chain # TC2539 that has a diamond pattern (for more consistent coverage) or the Titan Chain # TC3231SCAM and Adjusters # TCMA2 that has a ladder pattern (typically used for more aggressive roads).
For the Atigun pass you'll likely want to use the ladder pattern, but I wanted to give you both options so you can have the final say. It's also important to check your owner's manual for any notes about clearance issues. Even though your JKU has a 3.5" lift, there could be brake lines or cables that might be near where the chains will be moving.
Which one would you be leaning towards?

Hey Joshua, How did your trip through the Atigun pass go with the chains you chose? I'm curious to know if the ladder pattern worked well for you, or if you found the diamond pattern to be a better fit. Your experience could really help others planning a similar journey!
