Will etrailer Self-Adjusting Electric Brakes Fit Hayes 3,500 lb Axles?
Updated 08/11/2025 | Published 08/10/2025 >
Question:
I have a tandem axle utility trailer with 3500 lb Hayes axles. It currently has brakes which are not functioning, so I’m wanting to replace them with self-adjusting brakes. The wheels have the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. Will my current hubs have to be replaced? Or can I just purchase the self adjusting brake assemblies?

Hey Ryan, it's great to hear from you again!
The self-adjusting etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes # AKEBRK-35-SA will work with your current hubs as long as your current brake pads have the 10" diameter and 2-1/4" pad width. Odds are, these will work just fine, but it's still good to double check just to make sure.
Do you plan on doing the installation on your own, or having a shop do it for you?

I will double check the brake pad dimensions and let you know. I plan to replace these myself. I need to rewire the trailer as well, and will be adding the junction box with 7 way plug.
