Recommended Lock for a B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch

Updated 08/18/2025 | Published 08/09/2025

Question:

Are there locking pins for the coupler to the base arms? A friend of mine ask what would happen if they pulled the pins and stole your coupler...any thoughts on this?

Hey Travis, welcome back! You're friend makes a good point the only way to lock the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3305 is to use a padlock like item # Master Lock 1-9/16" Wide Solid Brass Body Padlock item # ML140DLH. The picture below will show you where to install the padlock.

What kind of trailer do you have?

Hey Jerred I was talking about the pins on either side, holding the head unit to the upright mounting bars. He was asking what if somebody comes and pulls those big pins and just lift your head right off of the upright mounting bars? Thank you Travis Gray.

@Travis The only real way to lock the head to the base of the item # BWRVK3305 is with a cable lock like the Master Lock Python Cable Lock item # 8419DPF.

@JerredH And that cable lock will provide the strength needed to hold the head to the mounting arms just like the pins would? Thank you.

@Travis No, not at all but if you weave the item # 8419DPF through the head and base of the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3305 no ones going to be able to take the pins out and walk away with the head.
