Question:

Can I power the Curt RVi4 from my motorhome through the umbilical cord? My vehicle battery disconnects for towing.

It’s really important not to power the Curt # RVi44FR directly from your motorhome, Steve. If a breakaway event occurs, the braking system would lose power entirely if its tied to the RV. The RVi4 should always be powered by the towed vehicle’s battery.

If your toad requires a battery disconnect, like some do when the key needs to be left in the on position, grab a 12V direct-to-battery outlet kit # RM-9332 so you can safely power the unit without compromising breakaway protection. You also may end up needing a charge line # RM-156-25 to run from the RVs umbilical cord to the toed's battery to keep it charged for the Curt system.

Feel free to let me know your complete setup to make sure you have everything you need! Safe travels.
