Will The Oris Hitch For A 2021 Toyota RAV4 Block The Lift Gate Foot Sensor?

Updated 07/31/2025 | Published 07/22/2025

Question:

Considering the purchase of a Oris Trailer Hitch TS66VR on my 2021 RAV 4. Have a 2 bike rack and tow a U-haul trailer sometimes. Will it block the foot lift gate function? Car is rated at 1500 lb towing.

Hi James!

We haven't had a chance to install the Oris Trailer Hitch with Detachable Hitch Receiver # TS66VR on a 2021 Toyota RAV4 as of yet so I can't say for sure. However, all the other hitches for your vehicle do mention the lift gate sensor being blocked, so I would imagine that would also be the case when the receiver portion of the Oris is installed. But, there will be no issues when it is removed and even though it may be blocked with it installed, you really just need to kick to the side of the receiver and it will still work. I've been doing this for just about a decade and have never seen a hitch completely negate the kick sensor.

What are you planning on using the hitch for?

Mostly for a bike rack with a 2" reliever. Occasional U-Haul trailer rental.

@James This will work very well for that! Plus, when you aren't using it for towing or carrying your bike rack, it will be invisible with the receiver removed. Definitely a cool design!
