Question:
I’ve got a rooftop tent on a Subaru Crosstrek. Can I use the RS77VR at a forested site? there's some small patches of sun but it's a little ways from the site. I do have a separate controller but curious if you recommend a better one. Probably needing 200 watts or so for some low watt electronics throughout the day and night. Have a 100ah lithium battery.

Yes, with a little planning. You can park in the shade and run the Rich Solar Mega 200w Portable Solar Panel # RS85FR out 15–20 feet into a sunny patch with an extension like Rich Solar 20 Foot # RS62FR.
That’s what Kyle and Marissa do with their RTT and tear trailer setup; they use a 20-foot MC4 extension to the controller to chase sun while staying cool. We also recommend using a folding table or tilt mount for better angle control under the trees, but luckily the # RS85FR comes with legs and angled setup.
You don't need a big controller for this. The one you have is likely fine if it's rated for 20A like the Rich Solar MPPT Solar Charge Controller # RS42FR.

Hey, did you get a chance to try out the solar panel setup with your rooftop tent on the Subaru? I'm curious if using the extension cable to reach the sunny spots worked well for you. Let me know how it went, as I'm interested in hearing about your experience!
