Roof Rack For 2016 Chevy Suburban To Mount A Thule Hullavator

Updated 08/07/2025 | Published 07/13/2025

Question:

What crossbars would you recommend for a 2016 Chevy Suburban? I would like to install a Thule Hullavator Pro. I want to make sure that the bars are long enough that my kayak will not contact the side of the Suburban while loading and unloading. Thank you

Hi Jeff!

You want 4 to 8 inches of overhang when installing a Thule Hullavator Pro # TH898 to make sure there is no contact with the vehicle. With the factory flush mounted roof rack measuring only a little over 48-1/2 inches, the Yakima SkyLine Roof Rack # Y59KB would be a great option. These bars have 60 inches of usable bar space and would give you plenty of space between the Hullavator drop down and your 2016 Suburban.

Out of curiosity, have you heard of the MOS UpLift Kayak Roof Rack and Lift Assist w/ Tie-Downs # MR89ZV? Bit newer to the market, but I found it easier to lift and pull down than the Hullavator.

What kind of kayak will you be loading on your Suburban?

Hi Jeff, Did the Yakima SkyLine Roof Rack work well for your Thule Hullavator Pro on your Suburban? I'm curious because it might help others looking for a similar setup.
